PRAY FOR RENEWAL

  1. PRAY FOR THE DES MOINES METRO

ALTOONA / ANKENY / BONDURANT / CARLISLE / CLIVE / DES MOINES / GRIMES / JOHNSTON / NORWALK / PLEASANT HILL / URBANDALE / WAUKEE / WEST DES MOINES / WINDSOR HEIGHTS

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.

Jesus, over the Des Moines Metro we pray:

for captives to be liberated

for the sick to be healed

that the wounded would be restored

that divisions would miraculously mend with God, families, relationships, neighborhoods, and churches, toward full unity

that corrupt practices, institutions, and traditions sewn into the culture of Des Moines would be identified, dismantled, and corrected toward full life for every person

that blocking boundaries of the world, the enemy, or the sins of our people would be removed so that the character and movement of God would be revealed in our midst

In Jesus name,

Amen.

2. PRAY OVER THE 42nd STREET BRIDGE.

Table Church gathers every Sunday at the intersection of every other neighborhood in the city. We believe places and spaces matter, and that as we gather here, and spend our weekdays in Sherman Hill, we truly do meet in the heart of Des Moines.

Since, then, we know what it is to fear the Lord, we try to persuade others. What we are is plain to God, and I hope it is also plain to your conscience. We are not trying to commend ourselves to you again, but are giving you an opportunity to take pride in us, so that you can answer those who take pride in what is seen rather than in what is in the heart. If we are “out of our mind,” as some say, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you. For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
— 2 Cor. 5:11-21 NIV

Jesus, out of the heartbeat of Table Church we pray:

that we would pursue God with ignited passion, true faith, and contagious love

that we would create belonging as we live out our full identities in Jesus and lead others to do the same

that we would do justice as radical reconcilers and true peace-makers

that we would walk and talk with Jesus and daily lead others to do the same

that the people of Table Church would live for Jesus and drop every hindrance to full communion with him and one another

that we would live awake and active in the ministry of reconciliation

In Jesus’ name,

Amen

3. BE WITH JESUS

Find yourself on the map. Locate your neighborhood, then your home. Actively remember that Jesus is right here with you. Perhaps even use the map to “walk” through your neighborhood together as you pray.

Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you. Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other. And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone. Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
— 1 Thes. 5:12-24 NIV

Sit with Jesus. Agree with him about who he is and who you are. Remind the enemy together that for you, Jesus is everything, and make the decision to fully submit yourself to him once again.

Ask Jesus to remove any barriers you do or do not know are present that distort your connection to him. Ask for open ears, clear insight and wisdom, and an uncorrupted heart.

Ask Jesus to reveal to you anything he wants to address. Do you need to confess something? Forgive someone? Admit something you’ve been avoiding? Deal with these things first, if you are willing.

Now ask Jesus to fill you with particular gifts he wants to give you today. Name them together. Some may seem serious. Some may simply be fun.

As you receive these gifts, actively choose to surrender them to Jesus, and be willing to share what he has given you with the people you meet today.

Continue to pray for yourself, your family and friends, coworkers, neighbors, and any other needs or requests today.
