Create Belonging for Kids & Families
DAY 1
Make Room
Watch Mr. Rogers sing “Then Your Heart is Full of Love”. What does this mean - “When your heart has room for everybody, then your heart is full of love.”? Is there someone you need to make room in your heart for?
DAY 2
Zacchaeus
Read the story of Zacchaeus from The Jesus Storybook Bible - The Man Who Didn’t Have Any Friends (None!). Jesus made friends with people who NO ONE else wanted to be friends with. But when Jesus took the time to stop and see Zacchaeus, and He asked to eat a meal with Zacchaeus, Zacchaeus’ life was changed forever. Spend some time praying as a family, asking God to bring someone into your life who needs to be seen and welcomed in as a friend. Then keep your eyes open for opportunities to do it!
DAY 3
Surprise!
Write a note/leave a surprise for your neighbors! Maybe you can surprise a neighbor with a bouquet of flowers left on their doorstep, or draw an encouraging message with sidewalk chalk on their driveway. Maybe you could write a note or draw a picture and leave it by their door. Or you could make a little activity bag filled with play-dough, crayons and coloring books, little toys, etc. for neighbors who have kids. Be creative with ways you can love your neighbors (safely!).
DAY 4
Puzzle
Make a family puzzle. Purchase a blank puzzle and give each family member a piece (or two!). Have them decorate their puzzle pieces in a way that represents their personality or their interests. Then gather all of the pieces and work as a family to put it back together. Talk about this activity with your family. What makes each member of our family unique and special? Each of us is an important part of this family, and each of us fit together, just like the pieces of this puzzle. And together, we make up an even more beautiful picture than we do on our own!
DAY 5
Unique
Read “God’s Very Good Idea” by Trillia Newbell. God’s very good idea was to create people who are different and unique but who will work together to love Him and love each other well. Why is it sometimes hard to love people who are different from you? What is one way you can show kindness to someone outside your family today?
