Prayer Room

Prayer is often a space to ask God for help or blessing, as it should be! God ministers to us. But these prayer rooms are different. This space exists to minister to the heart of God. Our one aim here is to bless God. God comes where he’s wanted. We gather in these prayer rooms because we are hungry for God.

Each one hour prayer set focuses on three movements: worship, the Word, and intercession.

Enter in an attitude of silence, take a seat, and follow guided prompts from the Prayer Leader as we practice the presence of God together.

FAQs

What is the purpose of the prayer room?

These prayer sets are very simple but may be new to you. Often, prayer ministry focuses on God’s ministry to us, and this is very good! However, these prayer rooms have a different focus. They exist for us to minister to God.

We put down distractions, redirect focus, and simply sit in the presence of God. We gather to do the things God loves to do.

Think of it like a dinner party with God himself as the honored guest.

Worship music provides an open space for us to draw attention to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit in the room. We’re setting the table and God himself enjoys the best seat.

Communal lectio (the Word spoken from the front of the room) draws us into Scripture . Think of this as the meal. We will “eat” the Word of God together.

Intercession is our time to minister to God in prayer. He is speaking in the room. He is declaring his character, what he loves, what he wants. He’s sharing himself with us.

Intercession is our time to agree with God and declare these things out loud together. Think of this as the party.‍ ‍This is our time to bring our best gifts to God in an offering of prayer. You’ll likely be led to pray differently each time you participate. This is a creative space to practice prayer. We’re simply speaking back to God what he’s been speaking to us.

We will end promptly at 5pm. Doors close at 5:10.

Who’s invited?

It’s our heart to unite Christians in our city in prayer from across denominations and churches. We hope you’ll invite friends. God comes where he’s wanted, and we want God in Des Moines!

Can youth participate?

Yes! We ask that they attend with a trusted adult. If they are able to observe an hour of silence and meditation, and want to practice prayer, they’re ready to join us!

What should I bring?

The only thing required is yourself. You may like to bring a Bible or journal, but they aren’t needed to participate. Be sure to turn off all electronics before entering to remove distractions.

Will I be asked to pray out loud?

The first two movements (worship and communal lectio) are led from the front of the room so you can sit with God in silence and mediation. The final movement (intercession) is our time to offer prayers with God out loud. You’ll never be required to pray out loud, though you are highly encouraged to do so!
